What I Got For Christmas 2016

I have literally never felt less festive at Christmas in my whole life.. so I'm cheering myself up by reading everyone's "What I Got For Christmas" posts and trying to feel a little more festive belatedly. I worked Christmas Day this year so me and Nick did our presents in the evening then had our Christmas day with families on boxing day.

What we did have of our Christmas was lovely and I did really enjoy spending some time with my favourite people and boy, did I get spoilt as always! Thought I'd do my own post as a way of saying thank you to my amazing man and family.

When me and Mum went to the BBC Good Food Show in November, she brought me the majority of my Christmas presents then - including a Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry and James Martin book which we got signed while we were there. She also got me a great cooking kit with a garlic peeler and super garlic and herb crusher (which has gone perfectly with the casserole dish we got from Nick's Mum). Mum also got me a sweater (which I also new about) and some cuuuuute piggy socks.

Obviously Nick had been chatting to my Dad on the side as they got me 2 of the main presents I wanted.. it may have also had to do with the fact I drew my own Christmas list with the twins did theirs. I got an Anna Saccone Zodiac necklace (which was probably the present I wanted most!) along with a giftset of the new Hugo Boss fragrance, The Scent. Another one I really hoped for from Santa! My other main presents from my Dad were the Naked 2 Urban Decay Pallette and I finaaaaaally have a new dressing gown.. I now have a nice dressing gown and what I shall be calling my "guinea pig dressing gown" which they will continue to chew holes in and pee on.

Nick totally proved himself as world's best boyfriend this Christmas and humoured me in my latest obsession of decorating and furnishing and setting up a new dressing room/office in the flat and got me a gorgeous white trunk with rose gold detailing with a second trunk inside. I've decided the bigger trunk will be full of gym kit and weights (part of my new years resolution!) and the second will be for make up pallettes as I'm running out of room on my dressing table. He also got me a stunning jewellery box and 2 LED letter lights.

Sticking with the rose gold theme, I got some new fairy lights in the shape of leaves along with a bottle of Black Opium, the Saccone Joly Calendar, Zoella's new book, pencils, Prosecco bath salts and lip balm, a sloe gin giftset... yes, a sloe gin gift set! Plus a stocking full of goodies.

Obviously there was also copius amounts of alcohol, sweets, chocolates, biscuits, candles (including a Gin and Tonic Candle) and bits and bobs that you only get this time of year.

I feel super spoilt and had a great Christmas and am so grateful to Nick and my amazing family! I need to get back into blogging in the New Year as part of my new resolutions so I think I'll do a post when I've set up my new trunks or even my office/dressing room.

If you've done a "What I Got For Christmas" post, please Tweet me so I can be nosey and see what everyone else got ;)

My Birthday in Chester

Oh hey blog.. it's been a while! And with my birthday out the way and having done our incredible second Black Tie Ball in memory of my Sister, I think it's time to get back to blogging (I've even treated myself to a new desk and dressing table and everything to kick my arse into gear).

And I'm starting with throwing it back to last week where I'm daydreaming over the best couple of days in Chester for my birthday. I love Chester and it's one of my favourite places in the UK as it has everything - shopping, cocktails and things to do! For my birthday we stayed in The Queen Hotel opposite the Train Station which was insane - we only paid for the cheapest room yet somehow we ended up in a full suite which was just beautiful. I could've happily moved in (until I found out it was the 5th most haunted place in the UK). The whole hotel was stunning and definitely made the whole trip.

We spent the day shopping (and trying to avoid the rain) and generally chilling out but of course while in Chester, I had to visit the shops that Shrewsbury is missing; Jack Wills, Primark, Cath Kidston.

When we were on the way into town we saw a little brewhouse, Brewhouse Bar and Kitchen which of course Nick just HAD to go into.. I swear wherever we go we find a brewery! However it was all rose gold so I could get on board.. plus it had nice cider to start my birthday evening off.

For my birthday meal we went to one of my favourite places to eat ever ever ever; The Botanist! The Botanist is just heaven and I love it, it's on of my favourite places of all time let alone in Chester. It's so relaxing with live music every night, relaxing areas to get cosy, a huge cocktail selection and fabulous menu. This was the first time Nick had ever been and I think that it lived up to his expectations after I'd been banging on about it for weeks since we decided to go to Chester.

We both had the Deli boards with a portion of fries which are my fav - ooh what I'd give right now for a deli board with ham, coronation chicken, salmon, hummus and pork pie. Mmhmm. To make the night even more special, the beautiful girls gave us a free bottle of bubbly to celebrate.

We finished off my birthday in one of my favourite bars; The Church. I just love how you can get drunk in a church.. it's so naughty! They have a great drink selection and brilliant music so it was safe to say I didn't want to leave when we got kicked out at closing at 1am!

A huge thank you to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday. As always I was truly spoilt with a beautiful Emma Bridgewater Radio, an electric cake mixer, prosecco, a guinea pig colouring book (yes, they do exist), DVDs, Lush products, make up, scarves, candles.. everything I love most! People know me so well ;) With our Black Tie ball just a couple of days after, it didn't give me a lot of time to enjoy the celebrations but we definitely enjoyed a couple of days away. We returned home after a week with bunches of flowers and more birthday goodies and cards from my amazing family and friends!

(Pinterest worthy enough?)

I love going away for my birthday and always try to plan trips around mine and Nick's special days so if you do the same, let me know where you go and where you recommend so we can start planning next year's trips as we want to start going to more new places in 2017.

Thank you again to everyone who wished me happy birthday or sent me messages in the run up to the Ball - it really was incredible and I can't believe both of them have come and gone. Here's to whatever comes up next.

4 Rants About The World We Live In

So I've kinda wanted to write a little ranting blog for a while now but I know it's not my sort of style.. it's not a post that normally comes from me but in the mission of starting to be more open and honest and a little different on this blog, I thought I'd use to talk about everything that has been bugging me lately I need someone to tell me it's not just me.. it's not just me that thinks this world is a crazy place. Lately so many things have happened that have questioned so many aspects of society that I don't even know where to start...

Six Year Old Fashion Worries
A few weeks ago I was on the phone to my six year old Sister who was telling me that she had a party at that weekend and continued to tell me all the friends of her's who were going but she then said "but X isn't coming because she doesn't have any heels". They are SIX years old. Why should a six year old be worried, or even worse, not even go to a party with food, dancing and party games, about anything that they're wearing let alone heels? It makes you worry about what they're watching on TV or in films to actually not want to go to a party just because they've not got a pair of heels. At the age of six they should be excited about lessons in school or playing with friends.. not what they should be wearing and I hope that if I ever have a girl, I make sure I bring her up knowing that.

The Fear In The World
There's so much going on in this world right now, it's not surprising my anxiety took a hit when I went to Turkey last week. You can't turn on the TV or open a newspaper or even go on social media without seeing that somewhere in the world is in trouble with people being killed or held hostage or being blown up. I was surprised how anxious I let myself get.. whether it was because it was Turkey it was hard to say but it didn't help with the super high level of security. Now I know that it's important to have on-point security but it was almost too much as it was so in your face and everywhere you looked. You had to show your Hotel Key Card to even enter the hotel from the hotel's private beach and there was constantly police pacing the beach as well as police by the Life Guard stand. Even with all of these, I still found myself saying to Nick "let's not sit on the front row of sun loungers" secretly thinking "if I'm going to get shot it'll be ok the front row". What has the world come to when even choosing a sun lounger on
A beach on holiday is chosen like that?

Forever a Teenage Mother
A girl I know of who had a baby as a teenager is pregnant again at the age of 25. She's smoked and drank her way through her pregnancy and now at 30 weeks she's having problems with the baby, having to have baby injected while still inside her, the babies weight being less than 50% what it should be. Despite feeling unbelievably sorry for that poor baby, I'm half in the thought of "it serves herself right". My family have already been through IVF and one of my best friends has recently battled IVF to have a baby.. why should she get away with treating her baby like that, and clearly thinking it's OK in this day and age, when it can surely feel the pain it's being put through because of her carelessness when there are the people who want to have a baby and would put themselves through and do anything it takes to have one.

Being Fat-Shamed
I see so much online and on social media about fat shaming and from people who have had abuse from other people for their weight or looks and I naively just though "surely no one would ever say anything to upset someone else when it comes to how they look. Oh how wrong.. never in my life has anyone ever mentioned my yo-yo weight to me (other than the standard "you look like you've lost weight" etc) and no one has ever told me I looked fat or over weight! But a few weeks ago I came face to face with a drunken *bleep bleep* who, despite me trying to help, took it out on me, shouted and screamed until they eventually gave up and walked away.. but not before telling me to "go fuck off and lose some weight". I kept my cool the whole way through her screaming but just this sentence.. not even the "go fuck off" part.. left me in tears and a total mess for over half an hour and put me off for days with my weight being a huge battle that I'm currently dealing with.. I was telling Katy (over at www.thelilacscrapbook.com) on Twitter about it and as most people might, she presumed the person in question was a bloke.. again.. wrong. It was a woman.

For one woman to tell another woman to lose weight, despite being drunk, is the lowest I've ever felt, the most shocked I've ever been. Women are meant to support each other and be there for each other.. as cliche as it sounds!

***

Is it just me? Am I the only one worried about the world we live in? The way we are bringing children into the world and letting them think? Why should you have to go on holiday worried that you're going to get hurt?

Matalan Autumn Haul

It feels wrong to be writing this post while wearing a bikini, holding a cocktail, lathered in carrot oil and sat by the pool in Turkey but I've been reading a book about blogging and only a few pages in, I've found the sudden urge to write a post that I saved as a draft over a month ago.. finally.

Anyone who knows me knows I love Autumn.. dark nails, dark lips, cosy nights in.. oh, and a whole new wardrobe. This is why I was so over excited about a month ago when I went into Matalan on the day of their new launch! I'd had some holiday pay after leaving my job so I thought I'd treat myself to some new bits ready for the new season. There was SO much to choose from and I was so surprised at the massive variety of perfect clothing outfit ideas they had on display.

I must've spent over an hour walking around the store but managed to pick a few staple items for my new Autumn wardrobe.. a shirt, a skirt, a new bag (which I've become obsessed with!), pumps.. you name it. I tried to pick out pieces that I could wear together or with clothing I knew I already had.. I knew the green skirt would go with a basic T or a nice blouse.. I envisioned the checked shirt over a black casual dress or even over t shirt and jeans. Hmmm.. *day dreams in my own Pinterest brain wardrobe*.

Anyway.. everything came to less than £100 and because I downloaded the App there and then in store, I got 10% off too. A lot of people don't think about Matalan when shopping but this is definitely one to try if you're a fashion lover this Autumn.

Back to the cocktail ;)

DIY Calendar

Over the last few days I've had a lot of bookings for makeovers.. more than normal so I've been struggling to find away to keep track of dates and times etc! I have a diary but I'm so useless at keeping it up to date.. in all honesty I don't even know where it is. I buy it with all the intentions of keeping it up to date (and not losing it!) but it lasts a week and then it's all over!

So this time I decided to come up with my own idea (that I didn't even steal off Pintrest!) to make my own monthly calendar that's clear and easy to read as well as simple to keep up to date. I've got so much crafty stuff hanging around the flat at the moment since we've been trialling some DIY wedding bits and pieces so I thought I'd use some of it up! All I needed to buy was this huge book of gorgeous card featuring over 100 different patterns (all floral and cute) which was £2.99 from The Range!

All I did to make them was set up a table on a basic Word Document and add the days along the top and dates into each box. I just Googled "August typography" and found some nice font saying "August" and other months which I added across the top. I made each a little smaller than A5 once I'd cut them out and stuck them each onto a different style of card, leaving about an inch around the edges.

Turning them all over, I stuck a little basic string with pink glitter running through it (again from the Range, £1 for 3m) on the card as well as the next month below it to stick them together along with extra across the top to hang it on the wall with and once dried I wrote down all the important dates - colour coding them; obviously! Pink for makeovers, blue for weekends away/holidays, orange for special events etc. I can hear you all screaming "loser" at me!

I've only done 4 months for now so it's easier to see what's coming up (and so it fits on my kitchen wall while I'm only tall enough to get the pin in the wall so high!) but actually I think it looks really cute and will be something to keep going with each time a month ends!

I love getting crafty and doing DIY so Tweet me links to your DIY/Craft posts to give me some more ideas for those rainy days!

July Favourites

July has flown by before I've even had a chance to blink.. I can't believe how quickly this month has gone and I really haven't stopped let alone had Chance to choose favourites.. But I managed to choose just a few items that I've been using and loving this month.

Beauty wise.. Bronze Goddess has actually taken over my fragrance collection. I'd forgotten how in love I was with the beautiful Summer fragrance by Estée Lauder! Something else that smells pretty good is the Umberto Giannini Back Comb In A Bottle which is better than any boost a back combing comb can do. Just spray it on the roots and boom.. Hellllooooo volume. For skincare, I have 2 favourites.. The new L'oreal Clay Mask (the green one in particular is incredible for oily skin) is what I've used every couple of days for the last couple of weeks to make my skin unbelievably matte and smooth. Another favourite is from The Eden Project in Cornwall when we visited in July; a Baobab hand cream. Leaves my hands feeling moisturised and soft and I really wish I'd picked up 2. Finally I have been using the Champneys Spa Heavenly Days Sleep Balm.. It's been a busy month so this has come in handy and I really do think this has helped me get to sleep at night.

Only 3 make up favourites this month but they've become part of my daily routine rather quick sharp. The HD Brows kit.. Oh lord.. This has changed my brow game for life. Best £40 I've spent on any make up product. Also for eyes is the Max Factor Purple (although it looks shit in this photo.. It really is a beautiful purple colour!) eye shadow kit.. The packaging in itself is really sleek and the colours are beautifully pigmented and varied so you can do so many smokey eye combinations! Finally for make up is a L'oreal Lip liner.. I've been loving L'oreal lip liners in general so not just this colour.. I've found that they're perfect on their own and they're that bold and pigmented you don't really need a lipstick on top. Really very impressed considering I've never really used L'oreal.

A homeware item in a favourite is a must when it's this rose gold foil card from
Chloe at thatlamecompany.co.uk - just £3.49 and free postage! Definitely check out Chloe's website and grab a treat for yourself!

For clothes, I could've picked a few but a coat in particular from Primark has been worn daily the last week or so! I only went into Primark for a white shirt and came out with 3 bomber jackets and far too many other bits.. This jacket though.. Isn't it amazing?! It's perfect with jeans, leggings, plain tops.. I love it!

Wouldn't be a favourite without food and it is actually technically an August 1st favourite but no one will ever know.. Woops! These Supergrains from Tesco are SO tasty! I was so impressed last night when I made up a bag of Med grains with some chicken and veg.. Was so impressed it made me excited to be eating healthy!

July has been a pretty great month and there have been so many highlights.. Cornwall was one of the best weeks we have had in so long, we travelled over 1000 miles in a week and saw so many sights, really didn't want to come home. I highly recommend the Gweek Seal Sanctuary and if you visit St Ives, you must visit Porthminster Cafe and have the best fish and chips and Pimms Royale you'll ever have. This month's highlights include the wonderful make up masterclass at the beautiful Esperar Boutique and Glam Studio in Shrewsbury along with spending a lot more time in town and taking walks around the Quarry and having a bit of extra fresh air while the weather has been nice.. Since the weather has been nice I've been loving my denim dress from Matalan while sipping on Starbucks Marshmallow Smores.. Best. Drink. Ever. Finally, this weekend we had a great weekend raising money for Macmillan after I was inspired by the beautiful Chloe, a 12 year old with cancer who I've got to know over the last few months. We raised over £300 for Macmillan which was the perfect end to the month!

What did you get up to in July?! Any favourites or particular highlights? I'm sure there will be products for me to try in August!

Wedding: Where to start?

Eeee my first wedding blog post - exciting times. Not sure how this will go so let's just wing it, hope for the best and if all else fails, go back to Pintrest to fall in love with more ideas I'll never use.

As you know Nick proposed in Rome back in February but back at home I was definitely in a state of "what do I do now?" and had no clue what I was meant to do first.. After reading and watching blogs and vlogs from Fleur De Force's bridal channel; BrideDeForce, as well as Corrie from Dizzy Brunette, I got an idea of the main things we needed to do before we could even start thinking about planning...

Set up Pintrest:
I'm OBSESSED! I have pinned so much I have so many ideas that I just won't be able to use all of them. It's brilliant for ideas when you're on a budget and want to make your own items and do a bit of DIY. It's a great place to have all your ideas together - my Maid of Honour has also made a board for my wedding too.. that's why she's the best!

Decide on Bridesmaids/Best Men
This was hard and easy for me - easy in the way I had a rough idea of a couple who I definitely knew I'd have by my side but I didn't feel it was enough. After losing my Sister who is the one person I should be having, I wanted someone who had been with my at every main stage of my life, who'd changed my life. So I have 3 of my best school friends, 1 work friend turned best friend and Zumba partner, and a "Shrewsbury Bridesmaid" so I have someone to go to events here with who I've grown close to since being here.

Decide on a rough budget
This was actually one of the last things we did out of everything and it was only because I saw a venue which I fell in love with but was a little more expensive than we wanted so we eventually sat down and used a website (www.weddingsite.co.uk) which we signed up to as it has a full payment section where you can put an approximate budget on everything from venues and dresses, to flowers, cake and honeymoon!

Sign up to loads of Wedding Fayre's on Facebook Events
Since I started liking Wedding pages on Facebook, events kept popping up so I tried to sign up to as many as possible even if I didn't know if I could attend purely so I had them in my diary and then nearer the time see where I was and see if I could go along for ideas. I've been to quite a few around Shropshire as it's easier to go here to get some ideas and inspiration.

Book an Engagement party
We debated an engagement party as a few people said "oh that's not what you do anymore" but we didn't want our families to meet each other on the day as my Mum is the only person to have met Nick's parents and we wanted our families to meet each other as soon as possible. It is nothing fancy and we're not spending absolutely loads of money but it'll be nice for everyone to get together to celebrate :)

After spending the first couple of weeks of feeling like a rabbit in headlights when everyone kept asking what I wanted/what I planned/what kind of venue-dress-wedding I wanted, the above definitely helped give me a few ideas and helped me settle in to Engaged life and wedding planning.

I'll keep updates on here about wedding plans and also a post on a lot of DIY-ing I've been doing for the Engagement Party after the event (as I want to keep it a surprise for anyone who's coming). If you blog about wedding plans, pelisse get in contact so I can read your blog and get some tips and ideas :)

Summer #FOTD

Yep - that time of the year where I'm changing my make up (tbh I do it anyway no matter what time of year it is) and this year I've felt a little more confident with my new hair, the ability to fake tan my whole body and not just my legs as well as my skin being much better! I love a good season change where you see all the new make up hit the shelves and get to give them a go - did you see I got a bit nail polish happy putting out the new Barry M Coconut Infused polishes?

It only took a couple of hot days and the BB Cream was back out and given a second chance - something that surprised me as last year I brought it and didn't like it! However with a tan I'm not a milk bottle and with the mattifying primer, it looks so much better than I remember and I even wore it for work - anyone who knows me knows that this  is something that I'd never do out of fear of losing coverage! But do you know what, with a little of the new Maybelline concealer under the eyes and across the cheeks, I think I'm prepared for the summer.

When it comes to contouring lately, I've been living on my Collection palette (which I wrote about here) - I use the darkest shade to contour and the lightest to just dab under my eyes etc. It's so much easier to blend than a powder, especially on something as creamy as a BB Cream.

When it comes to my eyes - it's time to put the darks away and go for something a little more pink and peachy! This is the first year I've really gone for something a little different that isn't just nudes and a dark smokey eye. I'm loving the Maybelline Nudes Blushed shadows as they have some lighter pinks for day and darker shades for either smokey eyes or for all over and night. They're beautiful shadows with super lasting staying powder and the brush thats included is all you really need. This will definitely be a 2016 favourite.

Mascara and eyeliner will remain the same as the colder months as they're just my favourite ever products - the No7 Velvet Lash and of course the Liquid liner. Both are brilliant for being long lasting so will definitely beat the heat this time of year.

OK - new product alert! Yes, you may have already seen the hype on Twitter so of course when everyone went crazy for it on Monday last week I ordered it at work before it sold out! And hooey freaking beautiful is the new Sleek Solstice highlighter and eye shadow? Mhmm! I just love it - I think it's stunning and despite not liking the product the first couple of days of using it, after having a play using different brushes and shades, I think I've nailed it as a highlighter. As an eyeshadow, the pigment is just something else - it's perfect for a summer evening with a bottle of wine and the girls outside the bars. (I don't like the brush - I think the brush is the biggest waste of space/money but I've been using the RT bold metal little powder/blush brush).

I didn't bother with powder and just added a little bronzer.. enough said on that area.

As you can tell by the packaging, a much loved product. It's one that I have in every shade available and has been repurchased several times. The No7 Lip Balms are great as they have SPF in, they're not to thick and heavy and they're really nice for the day time as they're only a sheer coverage. It's great to pop on alone or over a lip liner. The pink is certainly my favourite for every day.

My brush collection has changed since last year - probably every brush has changed and is new since last Spring and Summer and it's changed my make up habits for the good. I put the BB cream on with my fingers along with my concealer and also a strip on the contour colour concealer before blending the contour with the RT brush. I use the large No7 brush for powder/bronzer and a La Roc fan brush for highlighter.

So with Spring/Summer 2016 about ready to appear, I think I'm ready too!

What I've Been Buying: Make Up Edition

So this month I've managed to do a few extra makeovers so I've had a little extra money to treat myself with.. I kinda went a bit OTT and probably should've put some money into my wedding fund... wooops ;) I thought I'd do a little blog post on what I've been buying lately and my first impressions.

SLEEK FINALLY HIT TELFORD BOOTS! Yes babes! We finally got a Sleek stand at work and I'm SO excited. Sleek isn't really a brand I've thought about and I can't say I've ever been attracted into buying anything but after seeing Twitter go MAD over the Sleek Solstice palette, I thought I'd see what the fuss was about. I brought this and this only and after just the 1 purchase I was a Sleek lover. First impressions of the Solstice palette is that it's just beautiful... packaging and product! After reading a few other Sleek-lover's blog posts, I was pretty desperate to try the cream contour which is meant to be a dupe for the Anastasia BH contour palette. I can't say I've ever tried the ABH one but this is great - it's brilliant for concealer under the eyes as well as contouring the face. I love the size of the mirror too and when I went on holiday earlier this month I didn't need to take a mirror. The 2 lip lacquers are a lot darker than I they look so they'll be perfect in Winter but I've still managed to wear both on a night out each. They've got great staying power and look gorgeous when they've dried matte. Finally, I picked up the Barekissed highlighter but I've yet to use it - I'm not really a liquid highlighter lover but it was 3 on a 3 for 2 offer so I thought I'd give it ago!

NYX! Ive been dying to try Nyx products for so long but I really wanted to have a look before I brought anything and when I was in Blackpool a few weeks ago I finally found a NYX counter.. was so excited I may have done a little dance to myself. The main bits I wanted to try were their lip products so I went a bit cray and brought quite a few.. *monkey hiding face emoji*. Ok so I'll start with the bad news.. the lip liners.. naaaah! I really don't like them! I've tried both of them but they really dry your lips and even go flakey. The Lip Suedes and Soft Matte Creams on the other hand are perfect, with or without a lip liner. The colours are really solid and bold and I can't wait to try out more especially for just £6.50 each. We accidentally had a foundation in our delivery at work and I didn't buy it as it looked a bit Orange but when one of the other girls brought it and I saw how pale it actually is and not orange whatsoever, I gave in and made the purchase! It's DEFO a new favourite foundation, I love the matte finish it gives but I will say that it has made my forehead go quite dry even though I've got oily skin. I've also got the body bronzer but I've not had a chance to try it yet as I've had Fake Tan this week! I'm sure I'll be tweeting my thoughts later!

Finally.. a few other odds and sods. I was obsessed with the HD Brows kit when I went on a friend's hen do last week and her Sister, Mollie from Studio 5 Beauty in Nottingham, had it in her make up kit. I reaaaaaally didn't want to spend £40 on a brow kit but when I had a voucher through into my inbox for discount on Very, I thought I'd give it ago. I've only used it a few times and most times I've been doing it quickly getting ready for work but I already love it and am looking forward to doing my make up when I have more time to do it properly. The Mac eye paint was something that was used by the MUA who did our make up trials for the wedding and it's just a lovely colour to do an all over the lid base with a slight shimmer. You barely need any product so it's going to last a fare while that's for sure. Also on the same hen do, Mollie had the Rimmel lipstick in Asia and it looked so amazing on her and looked so much more than just a cheap high street lipstick so that was a definite must in my make up bag! Finally, 2 new No7 goodies from the new launches last week - their new nail polish in Olive is PERFECT for Autumn and this is definitely going to be my main colour in a couple of months time. My final new love is the No7 gel eyeliner. I've always been a liquid liner girl but actually, this is so easy to use with a small angled brush! It has a lovely bold black, matte finish and doesn't smudge the eye shadow underneath!

So yeah, I've gone a bit made the last couple of months but I'm loving pretty much all of my new babies and have already started using them in Makeovers as well as on myself! Is there anything else I need to be trying? What have you been buying this month?

Engagement Party DIY

Ok so yes, our Enagement party was like a month ago but it's been a busy few weeks so I thought I'd do a little post while I have an evening to blog!

Our Engagement Party (other than feeling like a life time ago) was amazing - it was the best day with our family and friends and was the perfect opportunity for our families to meet for the first time as well as my beautiful bridesmaids to meet each other too.

I think Nick has finally realised what he let himself into when parcel started arriving and DIY stuff from the Range started piling up - if I go this cray cray over an engagement party, imagine how mad I'll be going mad making stuff and organising the wedding? I KNOW!

Picking a Venue
As for the location itself, picking a venue was actually tricker than I expected - I wanted the pub where we met as they have a Function Room and some of Nick's friends work there as it's his old pub but to start with he didn't and wanted to go elsewhere.. We looked at a few other local pubs with a function room but 1 was too expensive and 1 didn't have a car park so in the end we went back to Plan A.. I have a feeling that over the next 2 years, I may be getting my way more than he knows ;) Little things like having a car park and being close to a hotel are so important when you have old folk coming or if people are travelling to be with you!

Ebay Buys
My favourite buys from eBay were this super Cute vintage bunting which alternates with "Happy Engagement" and "Sarah and Nick".. However, no where on eBay did it say it was self assemble... just picture me and Nick with 5 metres of string and over 100 triangles.. it's safe to say the party was nearly not needed and the alcohol was out! We had bunting pretty much the whole way around the room. This was £12.99.

As well as balloons which we had on each table, from eBay I also got a personalised "Welcome to our Engagement Party" poster which we stuck on the door of the function room at the pub. This was £6.99.

DIY Crafts from The Range
I saw on Pintrest a few ideas that I knew I just had to do so I went to the Range down the road and had a mooch around the craft isles and after spending over an hour (no joke!) deciding what to buy and what to make, I made Name Badges with everyone's names and their relationship to us - these were so handy on the day as everyone was looking who everyone was as a lot of people hadn't met before. This was one of the things I'm most glad I did for the day.

I also stole another idea from Pintrest to show off my Bridesmaids using just a cork board, cardboard, lace and a whole load of photos. Everyone was having a nose and it was great to show how I knew each of them. The school photos were a particular hit!

I probably spent about £20 in the range on everything which I was really impressed with although I must've spent a good couple of hours a few times over the space of a couple of weeks making everything. Was totally worth it though and I'm so glad I did both as they're also something to keep and already show the vintage theme we're going for.

Etsy Buys
To make the day extra special, we wanted a little something for our Bridesmaids and Nick's Best Man to ask them and wanted to make everything personalised so I got these cute personalised hearts for £4.99 each as well as the Best Man beer tag for £3.99 from Easy. It's something they'll be able to keep and look back on.

We had the best engagement party and I'm so glad I made the amount of effort I did and spent the time and money that I did in the run up as we'll only ever do this once and I wanted to make it as special as possible not only for us, but for our family and friends too.

PS - thank you to my Beautiful Bridesmaid, Annie (check out her blog here) for posting this little message from Cornwall on the day of our Party! xox

Top Drinks for Summer

Of course I only thought of this post so I could use it as an excuse to try new drinks and drink my favourites! One of my favourite times of the year is just as it starts to get warm and you can sit outside with a nice drink - it's also the best time to try out the new drinks that hit the shelves.

I've compiled my top 5(ish) that I'll be drinking this summer...

1) Malibu - or a cheap alternative! I love this fake Malibu which is from B&M Bargains for £3.99.. I'm a cheapskate and I don't care as it tastes no different! Malibu is a great summer drink as you can have it with any fruit juice so it's fresher or make a lovely frozen cocktail like a Pina Colada!

2) Summer Wines are always a great alternative to normal wine. I only drink Rose and even then I'm quite fussy so I find the flavoured fruit wines a lot more to my taste. And after much deliberation, and trying out about 7 different bottles (hangs head in shame!) my favourite this year is the Echo Falls White Peach and Mango - Echo Falls also do a lovely Raspberry and Lime one too! Either way, they're currently £3-4 in Tesco so it's an even better excuse to stock up.

3) Old Mout Cider went big last year and this year they're back with even more flavours. The Kiwi and Lime is definitely one worth trying as if you're like me, you're bored with all the mixed fruit everything. I love having it in a can too as it's not as big as a bottle and I find it easier to drink. Again, Tesco have them on offer for 2 set of 4 cans for £5 which leads me to....

4)... Rekorderlig.. Mixed Berries I know! But it's not summer without Mixed Berries something. In all honesty I got these in the hope to make the rather nasty bottle of Prosecco in our fridge taste more drinkable. What I love about Rekorderlig is that they have a recycling scheme - if you save your bottles and send them to the address on the back of the bottle, they recycle the bottle and send you a small amount of money for each bottle posted. Ok so you have to send them to Sweden but it's good to know what they're doing!

5/6) Both Pimms related but I'm so happy that they brought back the Pimms Cider Cup this year after how well it went down last year. I've brought the Strawberry and Cucumber flavoured Pimms Cider but this year they've also brought out 2 other flavours (that I've seen) and they're on offer in most supermarkets for £1.50 per bottle too so again, it's a good time to try them before the summer starts. When it comes to Pimms, you can't go wrong - it's as classic, it's Summer in glass!

So I'm sure that there's other drinks I need to try and I'll happily volunteer to taste test ;) Tweet me your favourites!

Life update: Qualification, putting a ring on it and rescuing another pig!

I'm kinda fed up of being a broken record when I keep saying "I will get back into blogging" as I know I won't, I won't ever be able to do it as often as I'd like as I juggle a full time job, a second job doing free lance make up as well as attempting to have some sort of life. And it's been a while but today I have the urge to blog so I've just posted about my new favourite nail paints and I've currently got a list in front of me of my new blog posts ideas...

So first up... lots of life updates..

I finally qualified as a professional make up artist which has been fantastic for both at work on the No7 counter as well as doing makeovers mobile - I've done wedding trials, night out makeovers, you name it. And you know what, it was 6 months of hard work and making the time to get the 27 units with 13 modules in each done but I got there eventually (:

Also, and I'm sure many of you are bored of hearing about it but back in February (27th to be precise!) I got engaged! Nick took me to Rome as a Christmas present at the end of February for 2 nights which was incredible - I keep meaning to do a Rome blogpost so that'll be coming soon. He proposed outside of the Colisseum at night after the most wonderful meal. I of course said yes and we've actually already started to make a few plans so I'm sure that there will be a wedding tab appearing shortly along the top of my blog so I can take you along the journey - mainly as I was in such a state at first as I had no clue what to do when we first got engaged so hopefully I'll be able to help other new brides in the future! PS - not sure how to get rid of all this junk - it doesn't appear on the editing page... bare with... <3 -="" a="" about..="" about="" all="" along="" also="" amazing="" and="" area="" as="" asked="" be="" been="" best="" blog="" blogging="" brings="" colosseum="" crazy="" do="" engaged="" etc="" few="" first="" get="" getting="" go="" got="" had="" have="" help="" honesty="" i="" idea="" ideas="" in="" inspiration="" into="" it="" journey="" just="" like="" little="" ll="" m="" my="" nbsp="" new="" nick="" no="" off="" olympus="" on="" our="" outside="" p="" pen="" people="" photos="" pinterest="" places="" posting="" proposed="" pull="" rome="" round="" show="" so="" stumped="" sure="" the="" this="" tips="" to="" together.="" too="" took="" top="" try="" ve="" want="" was="" we="" wedding="" weekend="" what="" when="" while="" whole="" will="" with="" woman="">

Thirdly... we have a new piggie... Little Miss Piggy! I rescued her from Wolverhampton and they'd only given her the name Piggy which I don't like but she responds to it and at about 6 months old, I don't want to go confusing her by changing her name. When we got her at the end of January(ish) she was SO quiet.. I was really worried as she was on her own and wasn't in the best state and had been kept in the downstairs toilet in the cold. She barely came out of her house, didn't really eat or drink and was only happy when she was being held but now... oh lord... it's a different story and she's a completely different pig! She runs the roost! Out of the 4 piggies she is one of the two loudest by a country mile - she chews on her cage door when you rattle a bag and she knows she's going to be fed and she's loves to have a proper run around on the sofa.... whether me or Nick are sat on it or not! She's obsessed with the TV and I won't lie, I'm a little upset she's a Daddy's girl and loves a cuddle with Nick. But I mean... look how cute!!!

I think that kinda explains everything - it's been a crazy start to 2016 and it's flown by! It's been a testing few months but I wouldn't have changed it as now I have plenty of ideas and opportunities to get this blog back up and running. I've finally had a bit of a redesign too - only a few little areas but they make all the difference. I'm sure a "Wedding" tab along the top will be popping up soon too ;)

Product Empties!

I've done an empties post before but it was a while ago and while I was having a clear out over the weekend, I realised how many products I was just holding onto for the empty (or nearly empty) packaging! Here's a little Empties post for yaaaa!

Think both of these were in my previous empties but I get through hair products, particularly conditioners and treatments, like there's no tomorrow. I've used the Pantene ProV range since they brought out the Repair items last year but lately I've heard a lot of bad things about Pantene so I've moved on. I'm still loving the Ultimate Blends treatment though - I'm just glad they're normally on offer for a couple of quid as a bottle will only cover my hair over about 3 washes. It is one I'll keep repurchasing.

Make up times! Collection Concealer... classic. I've brought it like 23847238746 times and will forever continue to purchase. Smash box Primer - will always be my favourite primer ever as it gives the most amazing matte effect but at £32 a pop now, I'll be sticking to No7's new mattifying primer. Beautifully Matte.. I have 3 pretty much empty bottles all in different shades. Calico and Warm Ivory I'll be repurchasing religiously until I'm too old to put on make up but Cool Vanilla I've recently learnt is too pink-toned for me. My favourite foundation ever though. The Collection Concealer palette - I blogged about how in Love I am with this and even though I've only hit the pan of 4 of them, I've already repurchased purely for these shades!

My skin has been playing havoc recently so I've been using so many skincare products to try and help - these have been my favourite 3 and have run out quicker than the rest. The Micellar Water I've already repurchased as has the spot cream (as it's amazing and works over night) but the pads aren't too special - they are confronting for helping remove all make up and exfoliating over bad areas but they do make it sting over fresh spots so I don't know if I'll be trying them again.

This toothpaste was in my last empties I think and has been brought a few times over the last year but since Oral B have brought a new one out, I'll be sticking with the upgrade.

Wouldn't be an empties without a candle... so, I may have had 6 pretty much empty candles but this has been my favourite :( I purchased this from Cabella in Nottingham last year and it smells incredible and looks absolutely beautiful when first purchased. I'll definitely be stocking up next time I'm in Nottingham.

Short but sweet and picked just a few of the products I've used (and remembered not to throw away while empty!). What do you run out of quickest? Skincare? Make Up?
